Steam and Miniature Railways

Steam railways have captured the imaginations of generations. For younger people a trip on the preserved steam lines and narrow gauge railways of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset are a step back in time and can be part of a great day out. For the older generation it can be a happy memory of a time now long gone.

Lynton & Barnstaple Railway
Located in the South West of England, The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway was opened in 1898 and closed in 1935. Built to a track gauge of 1ft 11½in, it ran for a distance of 19½ miles linking the two North Devon towns from which it takes its name. The present Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Company was formed in 1993 by the members of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Association, now a Trust, with the aim of reconstructing as much as possible of this once famous narrow gauge railway.
