Dartmoor Wild and desolate in Winter, beautiful and beckoning in Summer, Dartmoor provides a wealth of leisure and holiday opportinities including walking, cycling, horseriding, sight seeing, and camping. Swim in its cool streams, stroll over the hills and enjoy the comfort of one of its many fine, country pubs. Dartmoor is home to the infamous Dartmoor Prison and a part of it is used by the British Army for training exercises. It is also home to a great variety of fauna and flora, the most famous being the free roaming Dartmoor Pony. The South Hams Rolling green countryside, cliffs, waterfalls, well over a dozen lovely beaches, attractions galore. Sport, angling, leisure centres, fun and farm parks. River trips and castles. A week just isn't long enough! The Rame Peninsula Sometimes known as the forgotten corner of Cornwall, this tranquil area is just a seven minute ride on the Torpoint ferry across the Tamar River from Plymouth. Torpoint calls itself the Gateway to Cornwall, and entering Cornwall this way is certainly a pleasant alternative to driving straight along the A38 and entering Cornwall via the Tamar Bridge. By using the bridge, you'd be missing a region of quiet, pleasant countryside, long sandy beaches and bays, and several places of interest well worth visiting. Click on the link above for websites on various aspects of the Rame Peninsula. Lands End With John O'Groats almost 900 miles to the North East and the Isles of Scilly about 20 miles to the South West, Lands End is the most South Westerly point on the British Mainland. The East coast of America lies some 3000 miles across the Atlantic, the heavy breakers of which dash breathtakingly against the rugged cliffed features of this most beautiful area. The Southwest Coastal Footpath stretches from here for almost 300 miles along both the north and south coasts and the First and Last Inn plays host to countless paticipants of Lands End to John O'Groats, or vice verca, charity events. A trip to Lands End is a must whilst in the Southwest, and while you're here why not take in some of the other delights of the region, such as Sennen Cove and the traditional Cornish fishing village of St Ives. Visit the link above for websites on Lands End and the surrounding area. The Lizard Peninsula The Lizard Peninsula boasts the southern most point of mainland Britain, is host to many miles of the Southwest Coastal Footpath and its coasts are a very popular diving destination.
